Decoder installation in the Bachmann Jinty

After test running your new Jinty, you can start with installing your
Decoder. This will fit in two ways:
1. Vertically in place of the small PC board Bachmann provide
2. Hortizonially between the frames similarly to the 22XX. In this
Case the outer wrapping of the decoder can be painted black
To help disguise it. Lenz users are unable to do this so some
Other method maybe necessary to disguise the installation.

I chose to install a TCS M1 decoder. This was pre-programed with a Loys Toys decoder Tester. The body is removed by loosening the two CKS screws under the NEM couplings. The short screw fits at the front of the loco. The body then pulls off.

Remove the plastic bracket retained by the CKS screw. Remove the PC board, using a
Micro shear remove the TV suppression devices from the motor, remove the red and black wires from the motor.

Use a sharp knife to remove the plastic projections for the fixings on the motor retaining
Plate. Shorten the Blue white and yellow wires, and wrap with shrink tube. I always shorten the blue (live wire a little more than the other two). Shorten the orange and grey wires and solder directly to the motor terminals. Shorten the Red and black wires and solder to the red black pickup wires from the chassis. Protect these joints with shrink tube.

I chose to mount the decoder vertically
And stick it to the motor retaining plate with double sided tape. The decoder will also fit between the two front wheels, in this instance paint the wrapper of the decoder black. This would be similar to installing a decoder in the GWR Collet 22XX.

Here’s the finished product. Fitted with no. 19
Kadee couplers, well done Bachmann the coupler pockets are the right height.
My example was a little noisy out of the box but
Has settled down quite nicely.
