The next two pages cover installation in the range of Bachmann Split frame chassis.
This range incorporates the following: Ivatt tank, V1/3 tank, GWR Hall, GWR Manor, 43xx Mogul, B1, V2, A4, J39, Scot, Jubilee, Lord Nelson. Of this range the GWR variants are the easiest, and they do not involve the removal and later replacement of the motion. In some versions of this chassis it’s necessary to remove a little material from the chassis the fit in a decoder, mainly due to tapered boilers.

The use of a Dremel, or similar motor tool is recommended for relieving areas of the chassis to carry wires to the motor.

Remove the body from the chassis, and place on a clean white kitchen towel. Using two Craft knives ease the circlips off the centre Drivers of each wheel set. Remove the keeper plate, the wheels and place the parts in a safe place.

Remove the the chassis screws, taking care to remove the spacer pins and bushes.
Using a screw driver gently ease the chassis frames apart and remove the motor.

Some means need to found to connect the red and black wires from the decoder to the chassis. Excluding the Ivatt and V2 which have solder tags, the chassis can be
Drilled and tapped, or fit your own solder tag out of thin brass, or wrap the wires round the head of the screw and spacer pin.

Note: it is unnecessary to remove the circlip on GWR locomotives.

This is a great chassis from Bachmann, offering trouble free running, good weight ratio and a massive 5 pole motor with brass gear/flywheel

The springs and felt pads providing the current collection from the chassis to the motor should be removed and discarded.
