Warning Before installing any decoder ensure the motor brushes are properly isolated before applying power, or placing on the programing track. If in doubt check your installation with a continuity tester.

Diagrams courtesy of Digitrax. Failure to ensure isolation of both motor brushes will destroy your decoder. The decoders function is to interpret the DCC signals from the controller, and pass those instructions to the motor and other functions.
