History of the Guesthouse
The Tradouw Guesthouse was built in 1899 with its quaint windows and wooden floors. The house used to be used as a Trading Store and was also a general dealer at one stage. These stores served the greater Barrydale area. One must remember that the South African War, commonly known as the Anglo - Boer War broke out in 1899 and only ended in 1902. The house was thus built at a very important stage in the history of South Africa. The local school used the house as a boarding house for the girls. Leon Riley and Denis McLintock have run the guesthouse for the past four years. The main shop of the Trading store is now used as the lounge with an open fireplace. The guesthouse is situated at the top of the Tradouw Pass and as such it has the name of The Tradouw Guesthouse. The guesthouse is gay friendly and small pets are permitted through prior arrangement.
