Hiking and fynbos
Barrydale has four hikes that wander off into the surrounding mountains. The trails were laid by Steve de Lange and Ben Moodie and were cut by municipal workers and volunteer high school scholars. The natural Fynbos in the area is a major asset of these hikes. The fires in 2000 helped the fynbos to develop further as the seeds spread. Not only is the fynbos amazing but so is the variety of bird life in the area. As one sits in the garden at the guesthouse, one can already see the diversity of bird life in the area. Maps for the hikes are available.
