19 September 2005 - Celebrating 80th anniversary of a struggle heroine
Lizzy Adrian Abrahams (nee Joseph) was born on the 19th of September 1925 in Paarl. She was born to a family of four brothers and four sisters and she attended a multi-racial school in Paarl(Western Cape). Lizzy’s mother worked in a fruit factory, while her father made bricks. Her father was forced to leave his job as a result of ill health and went to work in the wood industry, however he had to leave that as well. When this happened the children had to assist their mother as she has become a sole breadwinner. Liz went to join her mother in the fruit factory but the work environment was not satisfactory due to racism that prevailed. Click here to read about her life...
