In 1966 he teamed up with South African tennis player Frew McMillan, and for the next 15 years they were one of the most successful doubles teams in the world. In 1964 and 1966 he reached the quarterfinals in the Wimbledon singles, and in 1967 he was ranked sixth in the world. He also won six major mixed titles, three of which with mixed doubles partner Greer Stevens (Wimbledon, 1977 and 1979 and the US Open in 1979) and the French Open in 1970 with Billie Jean King. In 1992, Hewitt and McMillan became the only South Africans to enter the International Tennis Hall of Fame. After his tennis career, Hewitt became involved in television broadcasting. Sources:
