Rail representatives will meet you at Cape Town
DAY 1 International
Airport and assist you with your transfer to the train.
After
time to refresh we board a luxury air-conditioned coach for a
City
Tour of Cape Town and a trip up Table Mountain in the
cable
car ( weather permitting).
That
evening get acquainted with the other guests at the
Rainbow
Rail welcome party.
After
an early breakfast we embark on a scenic drive to Cape Point
DAY 2 via
Sea point, Champmans Peak and Hout Bay, returning through
the
navel town of Simonstown.
An
early evening visit to Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
follows'
before meeting and scocialising with the local gay community.
South
African wine is world -renowned and today is your chance to DAY 3 savour
the wine makers delights. We take you on a wine route tour
Wine R through
the towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschoek, and sample the
wares of some of the famous wine estates.
After
a fun filled night on the train we wake up in the heart
DAY 4 of
the beautiful Garden Route.
The
day starts with a spectacular ride on the Outinequa Cho Choo, a vintage
steam train which runs on what is reputed to be the
most
scenic stretch of rail in the world.
Lunch
is served on a lagoon ferry as we enjoy a conducted tour
of
the lagoon and the magnificant Knysna Heads.
Spend
the afternoon at leisure in Knysna before returning to
the
train via Sedgefield, Wilderness and George.
The
Feather Capitol of South Africa is our destination for today.
DAY 5 First
stop is at the spectacular Cango Caves for a guided cave tour.
A
visit to an ostrich farm to learn about the worlds largest birds,
lunch,
and a visit to a cheetah and crocodile ranch completes the day.
The
morning is spent on a brandy cellar tour at the K.W.V.,
DAY 6 followed
by an afternoon visit to Kleinplaas, a working
South
African museum. Here you will be able to observe the
history
and lifestyle of the early Dutch Settlers.
The
more adventurous of the tour group can taste "Witblitz" a local
type
of "Moonshine"made from fermented apricots.
We
arrive at Kimberly and your chance to explore the famous
DAY 7 Kimberly
Diamond Mine and perhaps purchase a few diamonds
at
bargain prices.
Next
we visit the Kimberly Art Gallery to view the works of famous South
African artists and sculptors.
Spend
the afternoon relaxing on the train as it winds it's way east to Ladysmith.
Today,
one of leisure, is spent relaxing at a premier holiday
DAY 8 resort
in the Drakensberg Mountains. For the more energetic, activities include
walks, hikes, horse rides, tennis etc. or simply soak up the
sun
by the pool or at the resort centre.
Overnight
we have left the Drakensberg behind and
DAY 9 entered
Kwa-Zulu Natal. The morning is occupied with a
Durban
City Tour which includes a visit to the facinating Indian Market. The
afternoon is spent at your leisure - shop till you drop or
simply
watch the talent on Durban' main beach. The Durban gay community
puts on it's best this evening and invites you to join
them
as they party till the wee hours.
Heading North we take a game drive at Hluhluwe Game Park.
DAY 10 Keep
your eyes open for the lion, rhino and elephant which abound
in
this park. Dont only look for the "Big Five", look for the antelope
and
many species of bird which also grace this park.
Lunch
at Treetops Resort and an afternoon game drive
completes
this exciting day in the African bush.
We
take a leisurly Riverboat ride on St Lucia waterways
DAY 11 to
view Hippos - the giants of the water. Lunch and the afternoon
has
been set aside for a visit to Damazulu, a cultural Zulu village
where
we will learn about the culture, beliefs and heritage of the
proud
Zulu Nation.
Agile
young warriors will perform the traditional war dances while nubile young
maidens will dance marriage ritual dances.
Today
is spent in the Kruger National Park, keep your eyes
DAY 12 open
for lions, elephant and leopard ( not to mention the
hunky
Game Rangers!) as we enjoy our days game drive in
one
of the worlds leading game parks.
Our
penultimate day takes us via Pilgrim's Rest, God's Window,
DAY 13 Blyde
River Canyon Mac Mac Falls and Bourke's Luck Potholes
before
a night trip to Johannesburg "The City of Gold".
On
offer today is a township tour of Soweto, a trip to a
DAY 14 Diamond
and Gold Wholesaler ( for that gift for someone special)
and
a trip down a gold mine at Gold Reef City.
Late in the afternoon
we say farewell as you board your flight for
the
return trip to the USA
