PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION Polytar Emollient is a concentrated, tar-medicated bath additive containing a unique combination of tars. Coal tar preparations have been used extensively for over 50 years in the management of various skin disorders, especially psoriasis and eczema. Tars have keratolytic, anti-pruritic and antiseptic action.
INDICATIONS Polytar Emollient is indicated in the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, atopic and pruritic dermatoses. The use of Polytar Emollient may be combined with ultra violet radiation and other adjunctive therapy. Polytar Emollient may also be of value in removing loose psoriatic scales and pastes following dithranol treatment.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS Polytar Emollient should not be used by patients who have acne or other greasy skin conditions.
WARNINGS Patients should exercise caution when entering or leaving the bath in order to avoid slipping.
If irritation occurs or persists, discontinue use.
For external use only.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE Two to four capfuls of Polytar Emollient should be added to an 8 inch (20 cm) bath and the patient instructed to soak for 20 minutes.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS No side effects have been reported.
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT No specific symptoms may be expected from excessive topical use of the product.
Ingestion may result in nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Following ingestion, administer copious quantities of water.

PRESENTATION Polytar Emollient is presented in bottles of 30 mL, 150 mL and 350 mL capacity.
