PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
OTC preparation: Medicated scalp cleanser

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
DUAL ACTION. Medicated scalp cleanser with two active ingredients and added hair conditioner for the treatment or relief of itching and scaling scalp conditions.

Removes pathogenic surface organisms.

INDICATIONS:
For scaling and itchy scalp

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Shake the bottle.
Wet the hair, massage Fongitar into hair, scalp and surrounding skin.
Leave for at least 2 - 3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Use 2 - 3 times weekly for 3 weeks or until condition clears.
For prevention of scaling and itchy scalp conditions, use once weekly.

SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Caution:
May cause skin irritation, rashes and rarely photosensitivity. If irritation persists, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
Avoid contact with the eyes.

Pyrithione Zinc (BAN, USAN, rINN)
Pyrithione zinc has bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties. It is used similarly to selenium sulphide in the control of seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff. It is an ingredient of some proprietrary shampoos.
ADVERSE EFFECTS: Peripheral neuritis with parasthesia and muscle weakness in one patient was associated with the prolonged use of a shampoo containing pyrithione zinc 2%. The muscle weakness had disappeared 3 months after stopping the shampoo and 2 years later the paraesthesia had improved by about 75%.—J.E. Beck (letter), Lancet, 1978, I, 444.
