PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A 15.4 Ophthalmic preparations: Other.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine with a predominantly direct alpha-adrenergic action.
INDICATIONS:
For ophthalmic purposes phenylephrine hydrochloride acts as a mydriatic. It is sometimes used in open-angle glaucoma, to reduce intra-ocular pressure by virtue of its local vasoconstrictor action, which reduces the production of aqueous humour.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Should not be used in the presence of severe hypertension, hyperthyroidism, partial heart-block, myocarditis, bradycardia or serious impairment of the coronary circulation.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Adults and children: To be used as directed by the ophthalmologist.
SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
May cause irritation on application to the eye. Systemic effects, not normally seen, are those of sympathetic stimulation i.e. peripheral vasoconstriction and hypertension.

Not applicable.

Clear, colourless solution.
PRESENTATION:
Sterile, single dose, disposable eye drops in cartons of 10 units, each containing approximately 0,5 mL.
STORAGE DIRECTIONS:
Store in the refrigerator protected from strong light. DO NOT FREEZE.
Keep out of reach of children.
