COMPOSITION: Each tablet contains: Magnesium Hydroxide 25 mg.
PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION: A 11.4.1 Acid neutralisers.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION: Magnesium Hydroxide has antacid and mild laxative properties.
INDICATIONS: Antacid and mild laxative.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Impaired renal function and acute dehydration, undiagnosed acute or persistent abdominal cramps. Intestinal obstruction.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE: For very young infants the tablets may be crushed and given dissolved in a teaspoonful of water.
How to crush: Place tablet in a teaspoon, then crush with the back of another spoon.
Infants and babies:
Up to 4 months: 1 tablet 3 times daily
Age 4 - 8 months: 2 tablets 3 times daily
Age 1 - 8 weeks: 2 tablets as required.
Age 2 - 4 months: 4 tablets as required.
Age 4 - 8 months: 8 tablets as required.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Magnesium Hydroxide may cause diarrhoea. It may also interfere with the absorption of other drugs when these are taken concomitantly.
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT: Diarrhoea. If renal function is impaired, hypermagnesaemia may result. Symptoms of hypermagnesaemia may include flushing of the skin, thirst, hypotension due to peripheral vasodilation, drowsiness, confusion loss of tendon reflexes due to neuromuscular blockade, muscle weakness, respiratory depression, cardiac arrhythmias, coma and cardiac arrest. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
IDENTIFICATION: Round, biconvex, white tablet with a slightly pineapple odour.
PRESENTATION: Bottles of 20, 40 and 80 tablets.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS: Store below 25°C in well-closed containers.
