PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A.11.9 Antidiarrhoeals.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
PECTIN-K SUSPENSION exhibits intestinal adsorbent and demulcent properties.
INDICATIONS:
The symptomatic relief of non-infective diarrhoea.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Intestinal obstruction. Patients with chronic ulceration of the gastro-intestinal tract or who have undergone colostomies.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Shake the bottle before use.
Children: One to three 5 mL medicine measures every three to four hours as prescribed.
Adults: Three to six 5 mL medicine measures every three to four hours as prescribed.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
The concomitant use of alcohol should be avoided. The adsorbent properties of kaolin may influence the gastro-intestinal absorption of other medicines. Pectin should not be given to patients with intestinal obstruction.
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. See "Side-effects and Special Precautions".
IDENTIFICATION:
A white to yellowish-white suspension with a butterscotch flavour.
PRESENTATION:
50 mL, 100 mL and 2,5 L amber PVC bottles.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Store in a cool place (below 25°C) and keep tightly closed.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
