Each tablet contains:
Folic Acid 5 mg.

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A. 8.3 Erythropoietics (haematinics).

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Folic acid is a member of the vitamin B group. It is necessary for the normal production of red blood-cells, including maturation of megaloblasts into normoblasts.

INDICATIONS:
For the prophylaxis and treatment of nutritional megaloblastic anaemia associated with folic acid deficiency, as in the anaemias of pregnancy, pellagra, sprue, and that following gastrectomy, and in pernicious anaemia.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Folic acid should never be used in the therapy of patients with vitamin B12 deficiency of any cause unless there is associated folate deficiency. Proper haematological diagnosis is essential.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
One to four tablets daily.

SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Folic acid is usually well tolerated in the dosage prescribed. It should not be given alone or in conjunction with inadequate amounts of vitamin B12 in the treatment of pernicious anaemia. It may partially reverse the anti-epileptic effects of phenobarbital, diphenylhydantoin, and primidone, and thereby increase seizure frequency.
