PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A 2.2 Central Nervous System Depressants: Narcotic analgesics.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
The camphor, capsicum tincture and spirits of camphor have an irritant action, and camphor also has a mild local anaesthetic action. The opium tincture has an analgesic and narcotic action. Catechu works as an astringent. The chloroform and spirits of chloroform have a rubefacient action.
INDICATIONS:
Tandpyndruppels are used to relieve the pain caused by tooth decay.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Inflamed and ulcerated mouth, patients with gastro-intestinal haemorrhage, acute alcoholism. Patients with respiratory depression especially in the presence of cyanosis and excessive bronchial secretion.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
NOT TO BE USED ON INFANTS
Adults and children
1 to 2 Drops should be applied to the affected tooth when necessary.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
None, when used as directed. Excessive use may lead to a temporary loss in the taste sensation on the tongue on the affected side. Other side-effects may be nausea, vomiting and restlessness.
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Coma, pinpoint pupils, depressed respiration and cyanosis, fall in body temperature and flaccid skeletal muscles.
The stomach should be emptied by aspiration and lavage; a 0,02% solution of potassium permanganate may be employed. A saline purgative such as sodium sulphate, 30 g in 250 mL of water, should be given to aid peristalsis. Naloxone hydrochloride 400 µg is given subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously, repeated at intervals of 2 or 3 minutes if necessary. In children, a dose of 5 to 10 µg per kg body weight may be given, while in neonates, a dose of 10 µg per kg body weight may be used.
IDENTIFICATION:
A clear bright brown liquid with the odour of camphor.

Glass bottle containing 5 mL.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
Keep container tightly closed. Store below 25°C.
