COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains:
Calcium carbonate 500 mg
PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A l1.4 - Antacids
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Calcium carbonate has antacid properties.
INDICATIONS:
Relief from heartburn and acid indigestion.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
None when taken as directed.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Chew 1 or 2 tablets after meals and at bedtime. Do not exceed 16 tablets in a 24 hour period.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Enough calcium may be absorbed to cause systemic and renal effects in certain cases.
Calcium carbonate, like other calcium salts, may cause constipation. Hypercalcaemia may occur as may alkalosis and nephrocalcinosis during chronic usage. Calcium salts may enhance the cardiac effects of digitalis glycosides.
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Hypercalcaemia and alkalosis which may occur with excessive doses responds to withdrawal of the tablets.
IDENTIFICATION:
Tums - Orange Flavour: Orange-coloured orange-flavoured tablets with bevelled edges, embossed Tums on one side.
Tums - Peppermint Flavour: White peppermint-flavoured tablets with bevelled edges, embossed Tums on one side.
PRESENTATION:
Cartons containing 36 tablets.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
