COMPOSITION:
Each 100 g contains resorcinol 2 g, sulphur 8 g and hexachlorophene 0,25 g in a stable grease free flesh tinted vehicle.
PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A13.12 Acne Preparations.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment has mild antiseptic, keratolytic and exfoliative properties.
INDICATIONS:
Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment is indicated in the treatment of pimples, blemishes and acne.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Do not use in patients who are sensitive to sulphur or resorcinol.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Adults and Children:
Wash the affected areas with soap and water, and dry carefully. Apply Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment thinly to the skin with the fingers but do not rub in. Once a day is usually enough, but if the patients has a very oily skin, the ointment may be applied more often. Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment may be used under makeup to mask the spots and lesions of acne.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Moderate erythema and scaling are the expected effects of Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment. If these are excessive or if inflammation occurs, stop treatment until the reaction has subsided, and then apply Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment at longer intervals. Resorcinol may be absorbed through the skin or from ulcerated surfaces and prolonged use may lead to myxoedema, due to the antithyroid action of resorcinol.
Central Nervous System stimulation and convulsions may occur as a result of systemic absorption.
Caution:
Use with care on acutely inflamed areas or near the eyes.

See “side-effects and special precautions”. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.

Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment is a smooth, brown, non-greasy cream.
PRESENTATION:
Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment is available in tubes containing 10 g, 20 g and 50 g.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep in the original specially-lined tubes to prevent evaporation.

PATIENT INFORMATION
Directions for the use of ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’
‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’ is tinted to blend with the colouring of most skins, and female patients may use it with confidence as a powder base.
One application daily is sufficient, although patients with particularly oily skins may apply ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’more frequently.
NOTE:
Moderate redness and scaling of the skin is normal and expected results when using ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’. In some patients, especially fair and dry skinned types, too frequent applications may cause these effects to become marked. Should this or other undesired reactions occur, discontinue the use of ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’until the inflammation has subsided. Thereafter allow longer intervals to elapse between applications.
‘ESKAMEL ACNE AND PIMPLE OINTMENT’SHOULD NOT BE USED ON ACUTELY INFLAMED AREAS
{illustrated}
1. Before applying ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’ wash and gently massage the affected areas with soap and water and then dry thoroughly.
2. Place a small dab of ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’on the nose and one on each cheek.
3. With the fingertips lightly spread the ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’over the nose and cheeks. Do not rub in.
4. Work ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’down over the chin and blend into the neckline.
5. Place two small dabs of ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’in the centre of the forehead.
6. With the fingertips work ‘Eskamel Acne and Pimple Ointment’ upwards and outwards to cover the forehead finally blending it into the areas on either side of the eyes and on the bridge of the nose.
SPECIAL CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO KEEP ‘ESKAMEL ACNE AND PIMPLE OINTMENT’ OUT OF THE EYES AND OFF THE EYELIDS.
