COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains:
Calcium Carbonate        500,0 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A24: Mineral substitutes, electrolytes.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Calcium supplement.

INDICATIONS:
Supplement where a calcium deficiency exists.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Hypercakaemia resulting from eg. hyperparathyroidism and excess intake of Vitamin D, neoplastic disease, hyperthyroidism, milk-alkali syndrome. Acidosis because of increased ionisation of calcium.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Adults:
        Chew one to two tablets three times daily with meals.
Children over 6 years of age:
        Chew half to one tablet three times daily with meals.

SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
May cause gastro-intestinal irritation and constipation. Hypercalcaemia can occur as can alkalosis following the regular use of calcium carbonate. Calcium salts should be given cautiously to patients with impaired renal function or a history of renal stone formation. Should also be given with caution to patients with cardiac disease or sarcoidosis.

Calcium enhances the effects of digitalis on the heart and may precipitate digitalis intoxication. Calcium salts reduce the absorption of tetracyclines.

KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Excessive administration of calcium salts may lead to hypercalcaemia which may include anorexia nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, renal calculi and in severe cases cardiac arrhythmias and coma.
Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.

An orange coloured bevelled edge tablet.

PRESENTATION:
“Securitainers”of 50 tablets.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Keep in a cool (below 25°C) dry place. Replace lid securely after use.
Keep out of reach of children.
