COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains
Pyridoxine Hydrochloride 200 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A 22.1.4 Vitamins: Other.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Pyridoxine, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine, which occur in food-stuffs, particularly in yeast, liver, cereals and meat, are collectively known as vitamin B
6 . In the body they are converted to pyridoxal phosphate, which is co-enzyme for a wide variety of transformations, including decarboxylation, transamination, racemization, and the metabolism of tryptophan, sulphur-containing amino-acids and hydroxy amino-acids.
Pyridoxine plays a part in protein metabolism, the synthesis of fat from protein, haemopoiesis, and the nutrition of the skin.

INDICATIONS:
Indicated for the conditions in which a deficiency of the vitamin is diagnosed. Some doctors prescribe it for the nausea and vomiting of pregnancy and for irradiation sickness.
In 200 mg doses given three times a day for 6 days it may be used for the inhibition or arrest of lactation.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
It should not be administered with levodopa (and possibly other drugs in this category as well) as it blocks its action, even in small doses.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Adults:
One tablet taken 3 times a day for 6 days may inhibit or arrest lactation.

SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Long-term administration of large doses of pyridoxine is associated with the development of severe peripheral neuropathies.
