COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains:
Nicotinic Acid         100 mg
Sugar Free.

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
22. Vitamins

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Vitamin supplement.

INDICATIONS:
Nicotinic acid is used for prophylaxis and treatment of pellagra.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Patients hypersensitive to nicotinic acid.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Adult dose:
Pellagra: 300 - 500 mg daily in divided doses.
Less severe deficiency: 50 - 100 mg daily
Doses may be taken with food or milk to avoid nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, if this continues medical attention is indicated.

SIDE-EFFECTS:
Nicotinic acid has a vasodilator action; and when given by mouth in therapeutic doses it may cause flushing, a sensation of heat, faintness and a pounding in the head.

PRECAUTION:
Nicotinic acid should be given cautiously to patients with a history of peptic ulceration and to patients with diabetes mellitus, gout or impaired liver function.

KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Other adverse effects which have been reported, especially following high doses of nicotinic acid include dryness of the skin, pruritus, hyperpigmentation, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, anorexia, activation of peptic ulcer, amblyopia, jaundice and impairment of liver function, decrease in glucose tolerance, hyperglycaemia, hyperuricaemia.
Treatment of overdosage is symptomatic and supportive.

IDENTIFICATION:
Round, white tablet 9,5 mm in diameter with a score mark on the one side.

PRESENTATION:
100, 500, 1000 and 5000 tablets. Patient ready packs of different pack sizes.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Store in a cool, dry place, below 25°C.
