DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Usual adult dosage: Take one effervescent tablet dissolved in a glass of water daily.
SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Increased intake of calcium in patients with hyperthyroidism may result in hypercalcaemia. When given by mouth calcium salts may cause constipation, and they should be given with caution to patients with impaired renal function or a history of renal stone formation. Calcium enhances the effects of digitalis on the heart and may precipitate digitalis intoxication.
The symptoms of subacute degeneration of the spinal cord or pernicious anaemia may be masked by the administration of cyanocobalamin.
Calcium Pantothenate should not be given with or immediately after parasympathomimetic drugs or suxamethonium.
Caffeine may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, insomnia, headache, anxiety, restlessness, vertigo and palpitations. Caffeine increases gastric secretion and may cause gastric ulceration. It should be given with care to patients with a history of peptic ulceration.
The calcium salts in BIOPLUS* EFFERVESCENT TABLETS will combine with tetracyclines, reducing absorption. The two medicines should therefore not be taken within one hour of each other.
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Symptoms of hypercalcaemia may include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, thirst, polyuria, drowsiness, confusion, bone pain due to demineralisation, nephrocalcinosis, loss of renal concentrating capacity, renal calculi, and, in severe cases, cardiac arrhythmias, coma and cardiac arrest.
Caffeine overdosage may lead to maniacal behaviour, diuresis and repeated vomiting with extreme thirst, tremor, delirium, hyperthermia, tachycardia, tachypnoea, electrolyte disturbances, convulsions and death.
Large doses of ascorbic acid may cause diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal disturbances, and are associated with the formation of renal calcium oxalate calculi.
Treatment is supportive and symptomatic.
