Configuring the Option 2-in-1 modem in DOS/Windows 3.1x

I am using DOS/Windows 3.1. I have installed the Option 2-in-1 modem. I now wish to configure it for optimal use in my DOS and Windows 3.1x-based data and fax software.

What is the recommended initialisation string for the Option 2-in-1 modem? Where do I put it?

If you are running DOS and/or Windows 3.1x-based communications and/or fax programs that are NOT one of the applications for which there are special application-specific drivers, and there is no Option driver available, then we recommend the following generic initialisation string be placed within the appropriate section of your 16 bit communications/fax software.

This generic initialisation string to be placed within the setup section of your DOS and/or Windows 3.1-based communications and/or fax software is:

AT&FX1&C1&D2S6=6&K3S7=50S0=0

If you are using a DOS/Windows 3.1x-based communications program, ensure that is set to:
Hardware Flow Control (RTS/CTS)

If you are using a Windows 3.1x communications package [like Trumpet WinSock], place this initialisation string in the appropriate modem SetUp section.

FAX SOFTWARE:
If you are using fax software in Windows 3.1x like the WinFax Lite v4 that is bundled free with the Option 2-in-1 modem, go to Setup, then Fax/Modem, and insert the above unique initialisation string in the "Init string" area provided.

If you are using a DOS/Windows 3.1x-based fax program, ensure that is set to:
Hardware Flow Control (RTS/CTS) and Class 1 fax is enabled.

For graphical details, on how to set up WinFax Lite v4 within Windows 3.1x, see the
specific instructions.
