Who to contact in
South Africa to activate GSM data/fax facilities
| I want to enable data/fax
facilities on my current voice-only GSM cellular subscription. I also want to receive data & fax via GSM. Who do I contact to enable me to do this? What are their telephone and fax numbers? |
|
| To dial out over data and fax over GSM, for you by your
cellular Service Provider and/or GSM network who will upgrade your
voice-only cellular subscription. This is a once-off
requirement, and depending on your GSM Service Provider and/or Network, a cost might be
involved. If you don't have the data/fax facility enabled on your cellular subscription & you try to dial out using your cellphone, you will get an error message on both the LCD screen of the cellphone and in your data or fax software. If you want to receive data and/or fax whilst using your Option 2-in-1 modem in it's GSM mode, you must get and use the incoming numbers provided by the GSM network, where they do so. You will thus have separate incoming numbers for Voice (your current cellphone number), Data at 9,600 baud, Data at 2,400 baud, and Fax at 9,600 baud. Someone sending you data or fax will thus have to dial one of these incoming numbers to do so. To send you a fax via GSM, they must thus use your incoming fax number etc. Vodacom customers can call the 24-hour toll-free Vodacom Customer Care Line at 0800-111-234 to ask for data/fax facilities on their current voice-only cellular subscription. Or contact their Vodacom Service Provider. MTN customers can
