Inserting & Removing the Option modem



These are general instructions that apply to most computers. Installing the modem in some computers may vary slightly. Refer to the manual of your computer for additional instructions and details.


How and where do I insert/remove my Option 2-in-1 PCMCIA modem card? How should it be stored?
Inserting the Modem

Step 1: ...Minimum Requirements
  Before you install your Option PC Card modem, make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements.

 

Step 2:...Insert the supplied GSM or Telkom fixed-line cable.
  Make sure the lock is slid back before inserting the cord. Once inserted, lock the cord by sliding the lock forward on the connector. Please note that the connector can only be inserted in one way. Do not try to force the connector into the card, this could lead to damage to the card and the cord.

Step 3:...Hold the modem so that the 68-pin connector is by the computer's PCMCIA slot.
  Make sure the lock is slid back before inserting the cord. Once inserted, lock the cord by sliding the lock forward on the connector. Please note that the connector can only be inserted in one way. Do not try to force the connector into the card, this could lead to damage to the card and the cord.



Step 4: ...Insertion
  Insert the modem into the slot with the GREEN label facing UP until it is firmly seated. The card can be inserted into the computer whether the power is ON or OFF. Do not force the modem into the slot, or you could bend the pins inside the slot.

 


 

 




Removing the Modem

The modem can be removed whether the power to the computer is ON or OFF.
Please make sure that you are not on-line before you remove the modem.

Follow these steps to remove the modem :

Step 1: ...Pull the modem out
  Remove the modem from your computer. Many computers have a button or lever to assist in removing the card.
NOTE: Some computers have card locks, in which case you must unlock the modem before removing it.

Refer to the instructions provided in your computer manual.


Step 2: ...Disconnect cable
  Disconnect the cord from the modem by sliding back the lock on the connector and gently removing the cord.

 



Storing the Modem

Store the card in its original or similar packaging. Make sure that the card cannot be bent or crushed while it is not used.
