Youth line information service
Access to information is important in addressing the needs of the youth and their communities. The National Youth Policy proposes a National Youth Information Services based on a free telephone (0800 number). Young people in need of assistance can call from anywhere in the country. The youth information service will offer information on a wide range of issues like crisis help, health services, employment support programmes, unemployment support services, drugs and alcohol advice, emergency services and youth rights.

It will also provide young people with information, referrals, advice and assistance on a number of issues concerning them. The national Youth Commission will take prime responsibility for this task. The Commission will also investigate the possibility of creating a Youth Card, which will provide young people with a wide range of services, information and support.

Answer the following questions:

  1. Do you think the creation of a Youth Line information service will solve some of the problems that are affecting the youth?
  2. What other aspects can this Youth Line information service be used for?
  3. Will the youth in rural areas be able to use this Youth Line information service?

Answer these questions and if possible share your thoughts with the National youth Commission by writing to them offering other suggestions and ideas.
