Kolobe, which means warthog, is a small privately owned game ranch situated in a MALARIA FREE area 10 km W of Steenbokpan which lies 50 km SW of Ellisras (Lephalale) in the Northen Province (320 km from PTA). Our camp consists of a kitchen, diningroom, and lounge with fireplace, a lapa to braai and an outside lounge upstairs with bar overlooking a waterhole. Sleeping is in 4 rooms named "Luiperd" which sleeps 3 with own bathroom, "Renoster" sleeps 2 with own bathroom, "Olifant" sleeps 4 and shares a bathroom with "Buffel" which sleeps 3. We have no Escom power and make use of a generator, a 12 volt batt with inverter allows us to watch DSTV at times. At night we use 12volt lamps, and a "donkie" as our only means of  warm water. All  garbage is taken home after a weekend.

Directions  

• Take the N1 towards Pietersburg (Polokwane) up to the Kranskop tolgate (Two tolls R5.20 en R24.00)
• Pass through the lefthand toll to Nylstroom (Modimolle) ( R5.00)
• Turn left at the T-junction then continiue straight through Nylstroom (Modimolle) and on to Vaalwater. 
• In Vaalwater cross the only stopstreet and turn right at the Total garage on the Ellisras (Lephalale) road.
• In Ellisras (Lephalale) cross over the rivier and turn right at the T junction, turn left again just past the Palms Hotel.
• Keep going straight (at the stopstreet is a Xcell garage to fill up with ice) once you see the powerstation on your right turn left on the Steenbokpan road which is right under big powerlines.
• Keep going untill you get to a tar crossing about 37km this is Steenbokpan, (turn left if you need ice or anything from the general dealer) or right on the Stockpoort road.
• Passing some dealers on your left and about 200m further the road becomes gravel, continue for about 6km untill you see our sign on a fence on the left hand side (next to a big Mapippi sign) which says "KOLOBE" Wildsplaas 10km. At this point turn left and follow the game fence untill you get to our gate. (pass through several gates)
• Please close all gates that were opened by you, and help children as game may escape if gates are not properly closed.

• After having passed through the Mapippi gate and ONLY if it is raining or the road ahead looks wet, may you follow  the alternate road that leads to the Mapippi camp. Please greet my neighbours either Oom Krappie or Pieter as you pass through their camp. Continue untill you come to the fence again, turn left and continue through the last gate to ours. 

No cellphone reception in the whole area from about 20km short of Steenbokpan, please keep a good lookout for warthog and kudu on the road from Ellisras (Lephalale).

Aim for about 3 hours 45 min  total time from Centurion to the farm.

What is needed   

Coolerbox packed only with beers/drinks and filled with ice. (top-up in Ellisras or Steenbokpan)
All meat for weekend pre-frozen except for first night kept seperate from drinks to put in fridge. 
Our water is clean but has a brackish/salty taste. Bring along some drinking water should you feel that it may be necessary. 
The BUSHVELT PUB AND GRILL is now open in Steenbokpan should you feel the need to visit.

• Torch as we have no Escom power

• Coffee, sugar, spices, etc

• Walking shoes, binoculars

• Extra blankets and a jacket in winter

• A hat and sunblock

• Mosquito and tick repellent

• Dishwashing liquid

• Towels and costumes

• Personal shower/bath utilities

• Charcoal and/or braaiwood if rain is expected!

• DSTV smartcard to watch sport/movies

• Remember your camera's

• Extra toilette paper might be needed

• A fridge and deepfreeze is available only when the generator is running

• Our gas fridge runs the whole time to keep essentials like milk, butter etc. cool (not very efficient)

• Steenbokpan does have limited food supplies should you forget anything as well as ice and a bottle store.
