The 11th World Championship was held in France, Courville from the 1st to the 9th of August 1998. With a well organised venue in France and many good boats in the competition things were looking good for South Africa. After the first days racing for South Africa the rankings were looking good. Holding a 6th and 12th place in 3.5 cc FSR-V and a 10th place in 7,5cc FSR-V. After the second and final round of qualifications we had a 4th and 11 place in the 7.5cc FSR-V class and a 18th and 25th place in the 3.5cc FSR-V class. Out of the 8 boats that South Africa took over we reached the finals with 2 of our boats and the B finals with 2 of our boats. This was a great acheivement on its own.
Result before Finals:
3.5cc class FSR-V
7.5 cc class FSR-V
15 cc class FSR-V
Final Results:
7.5cc class
Well done to Wiliie for obtaining 3rd place. We can say that the other countries are definately weary of our capabilities. My 7.5 cc straight drive PICCO was also something to see clocking the fastest time in the competition of 18.4 seconds.
