A Glimpse of South Africa South Africa is located at the tip of the African continent. The population is comprised primarily of black Africans. Variety, contrast and sometimes conflict are evident in the mix of race, language, creed, color and culture. About 60% of the people claim Christianity as their religion. The Spirit of God is moving in all major racial groups and there are large numbers of evangelical believers in the country. However the unemployment rate of 45% has adversely affected the income of many local churches. Family life among the white people are similar to that of middle class Europeans. Families are small. Among Blacks, family ties weakened by apartheid as parents had to work away from their homes and were not allowed to move closer to their jobs. The extended family plays an important role in caring for children and providing other assistance.
