With its many inland as well as coastal waters, South Africa has a wide variety of game fish to offer the angling sportsman. For the inland angler, there is a variety of Bass and Trout species to be had and for the saltwater angler, there are a large number of saltwater species, ranging from Marlin to Sharks and Salmon.

With two oceans, the warm Indian ocean and the cold current of the Atlantic ocean, there is quite a variety of fishing available in the seas around South Africa. For one you can go surf fishing of the shore, this is especially popular on the KwaZulu Natal coastline, with species like Shad, Musselcracker, Dorado Salmon and Yellowtail Salmon being very common catches.

South Africa has a good fresh water fishing infrastructure, including fly fishing, lure fishing as well as a good amount of coarse fishing.

Fly Fishing is a popular sport, with many venues offering fly fishing facilities.

Fly fishing in South Africa has a good following, the main species that are fished for are Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Yellowfish. In South Africa the Fishing is either "catch and release" or "keep what you catch". There is also a fair amount of trophy fishing available, where if you catch a large fish, and wish to have it mounted, this can be arranged for you.
