General

The Springbuck is often regarded as the emblem of South Africa. The Springbuck is a very beautiful animal with its striking and contrasting markings. Both males and females have horns with the male's horns being much thicker than the female's. The herds that Springbuck occur in, can number from two animals to several hundreds. The name Springbuck come from their habit of jumping in a very specific way when confronted by danger or they are startled. This is called "Pronking", when they "pronk" they jump almost vertically in the air, with their legs stiff and the crest on their back raised and their head lowered almost to the level of their fore feet.
