South Africa has a wide variety of game birds available. There are huntable species of ducks; 10 huntable species of partridge (francolin) species, 2 Pheasant sized birds (Guineafowl) as well as a wide variety of pigeons, doves and quail.

Most bird shooting in South Africa is done over dogs or walk and stalk, with some of the waterfowl shooting done over decoys utilizing hides.

With the agricultural background of many of the areas where wingshooting is offered, there are often very large populations of birds that are constantly on the increase and thus providing a good renewable resource of huntable species and often in large daily bags that are regularly taken.
