Some wig info and help offered

Contact Julie for further information.

Hello all. Had trich forever, I'm 40. been in a wig for over a year now; seems the trich gets worse with age....I have some alleged words of wisdom to pass on to
those just getting into wigs or wearing wigs and going through the painful search for a wig that looks natural, etc. First, the first thing prople do if they even slightly suspect that you're wearing a wig is they look at the scalp. To this end, there are many good, inexpensive wigs with "natural parts" or "skin tops." Second, when you get the wig with the natural part, thin the area around the part out a little; this makes it look alot more realistic. Just pull a few hairs in and around the part, being careful not tho expose the stiching around the skin top. Next, believe it or not, create "roots." Yes, the things we're always trying to get rid of, when we have real hair, that is. Take a permanent black magic marker, and just draw in roots from the base of the hair, about two inches out. Even on blonde hair, which I have, it looks great. No one even suspects that I'm wearing a wig. Next, when you purchase a wig, try to get one with a "hand-tied" airline. This makes it look really real. The skin part is more important, but I managed to find both in a wig called "morrocco" by Christine Jordan....available by mail order (part of the paula Young co. I believe..) This is a great wig, sort of a shoulder length page, with striated coloring so it looks really good...These are just a few things I've learned through blood sweat and tears about wigs after spending alot of $ at stores (2x as much as I needed to...) Anybody have any questions about wigs, I'll be happy and glad to answer them for you; there are tricks you can do so that you feel totally comfrtable and at ease, and noone knows! Hang in there trichsters!!!!

ps.  I think people probably died when I suggested using magic marker on the roots, in hindsight I can see this happening, but it really is a neat technique and not nearly as "radical" as it sounds....

Some more replies from Julie:

I just bought three of the morroccos when they were $59.00 each. Great deal. Best wig I've ever had. Used to buy Noriko, but no skin part, no hand tie. I went and found the catalog for you. Christine Jordan is the name of the co., ph number is 1-800-884-9447. Currently, the morrocco wig is $69.00, still a smoking deal. Beautiful blended colors; after a lot of wigs and money, I'm very happy with this one. I can even wear it up with barrettes (just a pony tail kind of thing) but it's semi-versatile.

I'd call and order the catalog...its a good company. Order regualr mail delivery; I've found it gets to you just as fast as 2nd day air...

I had the same problems with past wigs, that they got all =
tangled and wierd, and they started to look dull. I don't know what the =
deal is with my current wig, but I actually feel sometimes that its TOO =
shiny! I looked into human hair wigs, did some research and asked =
around. For what you pay, synthetic hair wigs are still the best value, =
and they seem to be making them better and better. Just have to look. =
Which I've done plenty of.

I'm proof of that, having found the wig I'm wearing now. It's =
completely synthetic, and even though it's long ( shoulder) it doesn't =
tangle as much as I'm used to. I find that if you finger brush, it =
doesn't affect the fiber as much, but still unravels the hair. My =
problem is that I pull the hair out of the wigs too. So, I buy in =
bulk, and I usually don't end up wearing a wig for 5 or 6 months, more =
like 3 to 4. And even at the end of 4 months, still shiny and doesn't =
look like an old doll's hair would. =20

I've had LOTS of times where i've kinda shown up with what appears to be =
"new hair." People can be both inquisitive and rude, so when they do =
blatantly ask about my hair, and why it looks different, I 've told them =
that I got extensions or those "add-a-hair" ring-things that you can buy =
in beauty stores....I always say that one of the better things about =
being a woman is that you have the priveledge of messing around with =
your hair, and getting "extensions" is just one of them. people will =
admire you for having this type of fashion sense or creativity, I've =
witnessed it!

I would go, if this is your first time, and buy a wig closest in color =
to your own hair, but a shade lighter. This keeps 'em guessing...they =
think you lightened your hair, especially when you tell them you did. =
Then you can say you also got a light body wave, or if you added length, =
you went and got extensions put in!! It's really that easy, at least it =
has been for me. Look for the skin part, though. And paint in the roots!

I know how tough this is, sweetie, I started to pull when I was 13, and =
remember not having any hair on the sides of ny head. But this wig =
thing is really alot easier to pull off, I've found. So hang in there, =
and let me know how it goes. I think you'll be surprised! Hugs!

P.s Try the wig co. i mentioned....i wouldn't reccommend them if i =
wasn't happy =20
