Nioxin

The other night in a TTM chat room some people were discussing a topical  called Nioxin (or Nioxin3?). Some have been applying to areas where they've  pulled, including scalp, eyelids and brow area -- and are having successful  hair re-growth. I'm told this can be purchased at places like Trade Secret and  other stores where specialty hair products are sold. I'm wondering, what exactly IS nioxin? Is it like Rogaine? Do you have to keep  using it forever for it to work? How can it be safe to put near your eyes?  currently use Nioxin and have definitely noticed an increase in hair growth, but than again you have to stop pulling in order to make a noticeable difference. Nioxin is a line of shampoos, conditioners, etc. which claim to make the scalp stronger and give the scalp an ideal environment for hair to grow.  I was using the Bionutrient shampoo and the Scalp Therapy (which I just bought the 32 oz last night) but I find greater relief using Head and Shoulders as my shampoo and Nioxin Scalp Therapy as my conditioner.  Scalp Therapy is great because you rub in into your scalp and it gives you a great tingling feeling that last even after you get out of the  shower.  In fact I ran out of it about a week ago and have been using regular "bad" (containing cetyl alcohol) conditioner mostly on ends (but as us   trich's know, we have varying lengths of hair due to pulling). Because of this bad conditioner, I have been pulling for the whole week really badly! Even at work where I usually don't pull as much. Anyway I came home last night and rubbed the scalp therapy into my scalp and hair and it felt exhilarating.  I buy it at Trade Secret because they have those punch cards where you spend $100 and get $10 back. Buying nioxin products can get expensive.  The 32 ounce scalp therapy was 35 bucks. It was on sale for 10% off but still it's expensive...but TOTALLY worth it. You can also get it at salons. If you end up liking it, by it in the larger sizes so that you don't run out as often and turn out like me puling like mad the whole week I was out of it. Most over the counter topicals have been rigorously tested for safety, though perhaps not effectiveness, *if use according the label instructions*. I have no problem with using products such as Nioxin on the scalp, and with care, the brow area.  I would be exremely reluctant to use any product in the eyelids/lash area that has not been specifically approved for such use as introduction of the substance to some degree into the eye itself is inevitable.

Another great thing I've discovered (thanks to the many posters who have suggested it) works well for me is Nioxin3 (NX3). It comes in a small bottle and its a bit thicker than water. At night, I clean my eyes of makeup, but a drop on my finger and gently rub my finger along my lash line. Two things that it does: it makes it much tougher to pull out the lashes, meaning, they are stronger and less likely to come out when I do accidently slip and start to pull. Also, the pleasurable sensation is not as strong and sometimes non-existent. You know that feeling when you start to pull a lash, and it doesn't come out but it gets irritated and the urge to continue to pull and stimulate that "irritated" lash is so strong and then when you pull, its almost pleasurable? Well, NX3 helps to desensitize or lessen the sensation of that whole process. Anyway, hope this helps someone. The best part about all this is I have lashes! I'm so happy! And I'm certainly not perfect, but the combination has really been helping me. I had a trial run for my makeup for the wedding last Friday and the woman said, my, you have long lashes!
