Homeopathy

Personally, I cannot report that I had a good experience with a homeopath.  He gave me Vit B6 (for stress - I was crying in his office because of my trich).  But here is a testimony of someone who found it to work great for them.  Maybe it is your answer too?        (Amanda)

Here is her story:

I think you should add to my story an important factor: Finding a
GOOD, knowledgeable, and reputable homeopathic doctor!

I got trich when I was about 23 years old and suffered from it for 4
years. During this time, I only pulled from the scalp, but went quickly
from having thick, shoulder-length hair to having a crop cut that
rivaled my boyfriend's. It was very thin in patches, and it was all I
could do to cover it up (often I couldn't).

During this time, I was often stressed out and anxious, so after two
years, I started seeing a psychotherapist to help me deal with stress
better. She helped quite a bit with this, but the trich didn't get any
better. Then she suggested going to see a homeopathic doctor, who
happened to be treating my mother at the time. He had been a
traditional MD for years, then learned homeopathy and eventually
specialized in it. I started considering it because I always felt that
my trich was not just mental or just physical, but somehow a little of
both. Homeopathy is supposed to treat the whole person, not just a
physical symptom. So I thought it was worth a try.

I saw him in February of 1997, and had a 2.5 hour initial session with
him, where he asked (it seemed) about everything but the trich. Lots of
questions that I wondered how they could possibly be relevant (e.g.,
what side of your body do you sleep on?). Anyway, he wanted to study
what I had told him, and he would send me the remedy. We made an
appointment for 6 weeks later to follow up.

A couple days later, the remedy arrived - a small packet of white
granules (about 1/4 tsp). I followed the directions and let them
dissolve under my tongue that night before I went to bed. There was no
taste except that they were flavored with sugar. I got up the next day,
hoping for miracles. No dice. There was no change in the behavior. I
waited weeks - nothing, so I gave up hoping. About a week before I was
scheduled to go back (and tell him that we were back to the drawing
board), I got home from work one day and realized that I had probably
only pulled 20 hairs that day. This was a large improvement over a
normal day. "Weird!" I thought, and forgot about it. Until the next
day when the same thing happened. The hair pulling started slowly
dropping off. By the time I went back to the homeopath, I was only
pulling about 5 hairs a day. Two weeks after that, I wasn't pulling at
all.

At the follow up appointment, the doctor did not give me another dose of
the remedy. This made me nervous, since the first dose appeared to be
working, but he said that things were going well, so not to mess with a
good thing. I went almost a year without pulling one hair! And he
never gave me another dose of the remedy for the hair. He did start
treating some other skin issues, though.

The best part was that I had stopped pulling because the urge was simply
gone. It was not a struggle of mind over matter. My hair grew out (it
is now about at my jaw line and below my ears), and I got all my
self-confidence back that I had lost for 4 years. I felt like I had
returned to who I really was.

I think the important things for my recovery were:
1) That I had dealt with my stress management first
2) That I went to a Professional Homeopathic MD, instead of trying to
treat myself
3) That I was part of a trich support group, which helped me see that
people who have had trich a long time can be bright, beautiful, and
happy individuals - its not the end of the world.

About a month ago, I did start pulling a hair or two every once in a
while. I'm currently working full time and going to school full time,
so the stress level has had something to do with it I'm sure. Because
the minor pulling has continued, I have another appointment with the
doctor in a few days. I hope he can get me back on track. I have faith
that he can, and if not, so far the pulling is not even close to what it
once was. And I've had a blissful pull-free year! I'm very thankful.
