Hair
extention info
Info by a trichster
Your hair only needs to be about 3 inches long to have this hair thing
(extentions)
done. I get my hair done through Hair Police http://hairpolice.com
They travel around the world (though have salons in Minneapolis and
Amsterdam) doing hair extentions of all sorts. I have Synthetic dread
lock extentions. Basically, my real hair is braided for about an inch,
then fake hair is attached to the braid and dreaded and tied with
string. They last a year or so, you just have to get the braiding
tightened every few months.
They don't just do dreads, but human hair extentions (which look
totally natural and are a more conservative "normal" look than
dreadlocks or braids). They also do synthetic extentions, which are
loose extentions, just not human hair. The owner Sonia knows what
Trich is, and even told me one of her stylists had/has it. She passed
my email address along to that stylist who in turn emailed me and told
me I wasn't alone. It was very nice to hear it from a stylist and know
it happens to *everyone*, including those in the hair business.
I started pulling two years ago, under a lot of stress, moving acorss
the atlantic and being on depoprovera injection and dexerdine for ADD
(I'm sure all of that was what triggered my Trich). By New years 2000
I looked like a benedictine monk. The whole top of my head only had
downy type fluff hair on it and I was serverly depressed. I found out
about hairpolice and managed somehow to allow the bald area to grow
back (i think i sort of decided i could pull, just not from one area
on my head). Once my hair grew a few inches there...I went and saw
Hairpolice in London. I got the synth dreads put in and kept them in
for months. By the time I took them out 6 months later (i only took
them out because I was unable to get the braiding tightened and they
started to look bad) my hair had all grown back in and was full again.
I thought maybe I was through the hard part of my trich and that it
had gone away. The braiding literally doesn't allow you to really get
at your hair (if you're like me and you pull closer to the scalp, i
can't pull from the end of a strand of hair). I had the dreads out for
about 4 months. What a nightmare. Slowly I started to pull again and
as my fear grew about looking like I had at new years, my pulling got
worse. I decided not to let it get back out of control and had the
dreads put back in. I've been pull free since, I still pick at my
scalp once in a while and feel around, but I can't spend 4 trance like
hours pulling in one area anymore.
I know it's not a cure, but I feel good about myself now. I look great
and don't worry about my hair anymore. I suggest to anyone considering
hair extentions to check out the website...granted, most of the styles
shown on the site are quite funky...they have a motto that "normal
people get hair extentions too". They will do *anything* you want and
they will do it well, no one will ever be able to tell you have
extentions.
You can also email Sonia at hair.police@pclink.net
, she can answer
all your questions about how the extentions are done. She's wonderful
and I recently met her in Las Vegas in person and have to say, she
really knows her stuff. It was also a huge relief to me that she made
me feel comfortable enough to tell her I had Trich and I was so happy
she knew about it and didn't think I was a freak.
Good luck everyone,
Jervais
