Acidopholous Info
I once requested people on the BB to give me info on acidopholous, and here are the replies:
It can be found in the cooler at Health Food Stores--at least in BC (Canada). It's a white powder and usually comes in gelatine capsules. Eating large quantities of yogurt, which also contains acidopholis, can help too. whenever I am on doctor-prescribed antibiotics (which is as seldom as possible)I take acidopholis capsules to replenish the good intestinal flora that the antibiotics kill.
The acidophilus capsules I take are only
available through a sponsor of the 'Cell Tech' products. I just order the products myself,
I am not a sponsor but I do have a sponsor that I could get you in touch with if you
decide to
try the product. I cannot emphasise enough on how it has changed my life for the better. I
not only take acidop.... I also take enzymes because I have had sooo much problems in the
past with digesting food, making
me feel sluggish etc. I used to take way too many tums and zantacs etc. Now I use my
enzymes before each meal and NO indigestion whatsoever. I do not want to sound like a
salesperson, so I will stop at that. You can
look up the Cell Tech company on the web also. The acidophilus keeps the small
intestine balanced with the beneficial bacteria called DDS-1. It colonises the walls and
secrets substances which prevent the growth of unfriendly bacteria (yeast etc). It also
contains (NOW DON'T FREAK !) Algae !!! Yep The algae is the stuff that gives the acidop a
kind of boost that actually makes the healthy bacteria grow faster. Sounds strange, but
since I've been on the algae enzymes and acidoph my energy has increased, pulling
decreased and sickness decreased too.
Acidophoulos pills, I may be spelling that wrong, have been around for years and I get
them from a health food store. I guess you could say that they are homeopathic, but I
learned about them from the mailer, can't remember whom.... I notice than when I take them
regularly, it does help. it was explained to me that people who suffer from 'candida', a
yeast metabolism problem, find much relief with acidopholous....so, I thought what the
hell. can't hurt.
Xxxx notes relief by using acidophilus for a month, and asks why. To my eye, the key section of her note was that it has taken about 30 days to have an effect. If she is an allergic puller and if there is a yeast involved, then the yeast hypothesis predicts not only that acidophilus should work (by competition in the gut, limiting yeast population), but that it should take about this long. Fungal infections are really hard to treat. My own observations with my dog's licking problem suggest that things may actually get worse for the first 10 days, take about 20 days before there are signs of progress, evidence for likelihood of a remission at 30 days, and full benefit only at 60 days. As for myself (Amanda), I've been on it for almost 2 weeks, and it does seem to make a difference in the tolerance of 'bad foods'. Previously I couldn't eat 2 cookies, then I had urges. Now I have eaten 4 already (too scared to try more), without any problems afterwards. I am carefully optimistic at this stage. Will still do a lot of experimenting.
