FRESHWATER FISHING
IN SOUTH AFRICA

I live 22 miles from the Gariep river, the largest river system in South Africa.
I have fished for wild trout in the Gariep's origin, high in the mountains of Lesotho an independent country which is surrounded by South Africa. I also fish for the enormous catfish and yellow fish using only a fly and fly rod or an artificial lure like Rapala or plastic worm with a bait caster to good success. It is a adrenaline rushing experience to feel a 60 pound catfish or a 10 pound yellow fish take the lure with the splashing you usually only get when fishing top water lures for bass. The best months to fish is from September through April.

We are able to combine any hunting safari and varmint safari with a fishing safari.

Heaven on earth:
My fishing partner and I fishing a river full of wild trout by ourselves.
Trout were last stocked in the 1960's

The best fishing spots in Lesotho are very remote and only accessible with a 4x4 vehicle. The effort will be worth your wile as few people will wonder that far of the beaten track. The locals only fish with night crawlers and more yellow fish than trout are caught.
