THE SONY PLAYSTATION John Press from Ster Kinekor Home Entertainment speaks to Greg Melvill - Smith about the Sony Playstation The Sony Playstation is a CD Rom based gaming system designed for the home with a range of available accessories. It plugs directly into the back of your Television set. There's no loading time and the emphasis is on plug-and-play.
Playstation isn't aimed at one sector of the gaming market. Playstation software really applies to different people with different interests. Depending on your software, a golf game for example, is going to appeal to your slightly older sports fan, whereas a title like "Crash Bandy Kid" is going to appeal to your younger, cartoon type fan. If we look at the price, for your hardware you will pay about R1 000. This does tend to fluctuate, because it is an imported item. As far as software is concerned, you're looking at between R200 and R450 a game. There is a range of titles called the "Platinum Range", which go at around R230 a piece, which include all the best sellers re-released and re-packaged. The future of Playstaion will be the Playstation II. It will be a DVD-base system, which is going to be Internet compatible, which should make for some very interesting gaming. Contact
