Video Enabled Kiosks In Touch presenter Greg Melville-Smith talks to Paul Lowther of Lowther Technologies who explains the technology
Video Enabled Kiosk is an exciting technology. Traditionally, kiosks were known as dumb terminals where one could scroll through and access various forms of information. One could spend 15 to 20 minutes without having gained anything from the experience. With the Video Enabled Kiosk, an environment has been created where you can have a one-on-one conversation with your bank service provider.
Going to the bank to get a cheque or activate a particular service will effectively come to an end. With this product, the customer can interact with a bank service provider in an environment where they live, work and play or spend their money.
Buying a car could be as simple as dialing a number and interacting with the service provider in real time. A document is printed out to you and you are required to fill in some information; the application is processed and authorisation is given - again in real time.
It is therefore not only a method of interacting with a computer, making queries and having a discussion, but you can request and receive information as well. The real power of the system is remote transaction processing.
To make customers feel secure the system can incorporate any identification or screening mechanism to ensure that the information exchanged is confidential and legitimate.
