DVD PLAYER
But what is DVD? A DVD, as Tim Humphreys-Davies from Multimedia Warehouse explained, is a revolutionary new storage format, that stands for Digital Versatile Disk. It is PC Compatible and has a hardware platform. It is a standard CD-ROM size and sits in your PC. The dominant difference between the DVD and the traditional storage format is the storage capability - the current storage capability of a CD-ROM. is 640 megabytes whilst the storage capacity of the DVD is a massive 17.3 gigabytes. It is also "backward" compatible, which is one of the major advantages of the DVD. If you have a DVD drive it can still play a standard CD-ROM disk. The re-writeable DVD technology has just recently come onto the market - it is not mass market yet and it is not cost effective for it to go to the market. It is called DVD RAM. Some people have DVD players in their house, some people have DVD drives on their computers and the main reason is to watch movies and to get involved in multimedia. What is it that makes the DVD is a better format for multimedia than video or laser disks?
One of the key characteristics about DVD is that it is interactive. You can jump to any scene you like and experience its full digital Dolby surround sound. If you are watching a full screen DVD just like in the movies it has 5.1 channels a line double up, incredible anpac 2 quality and full surround sound in AC3 digital dolby, the only difference is the smaller screen.
