The Media industry and new technology basically go hand in hand, in fact the media industry draw s on new technology significantly. South Africa has recently had a launch of a product that is going to turn the media technology up side down.
Craig what is it?
Craig
It is a very exciting devolvement for South Africa, it is a product called "Dobermann" it is a digital online booking explorer or a media authoring network navigator. For the first time in the history of electricity this allows you to on your own computer at home to be able to create your advert and to flight it across our Internet to our server and then via satellite to a selection of installed plasma screens country wide. The screens themselves are only 15 centimeters thick, what we did with our years of experience in digital graphics in particularly large format graphics immediately saw a leech for product as a digital poster.
Greg
So what your saying is that you can have a poster up that can be changing every 15, 20, 30 seconds.
Craig
Yes, the medium is very dynamic, you can create 10 second adverts, the screens are also capable to do full motion video which we will be getting into further down the road, which is very exciting for a poster that moves and talks and generally attracts more attention.
Greg
So you are saying that I can sit at home, scan in my ad send it in to your server, boom onto the satellite and it is on the site.
Craig
You need to create your first electronic booking, put in your client name in and product, then your own advert, you can then attach your image content to your booking. The advert that you have created and send it with our space reservation. If you are in JHB and you want to advertise in the waterfront at the cinema in Cape Town. You click onto your site and you will see your installed screen where you want to advertise.
The cost for a month of advertising by way of example will be a low as R 750. for over 2000 ten second slots. You can select from any scanned image or previous bit image, once we have selected our ad we can call it up and give it a name.
The graphic wizard on your PC will show you the exact size of plasma screen. You use very simple tools to get the size you want for the advert. You can compress the file to as small as 150K , what that means is that you can fit 10 adverts onto a standard stiffy disk, that is how small it is, so when you hit the display site the resolution is as you see it.
Greg
The timing for South Africa?
Craig
The plasma screen is a Japanese product and the satellite wasn't developed locally. The DMS Doberman and the concept as whole was completely developed in South Africa. Which we are very proud of!
Greg
Well it looks like South Africa is really getting ahead in this technology.
That is all from us this week.
