The VGA Card

On Interact today, In Touch presenter, Greg Melvill-Smith talks to Richard Watters from One Technology Group, about the VGA Card.

The VGA Card ( Video Graphics Accelerator) takes images from the hard drive and produces an image on the computer screen. However, to enhance the card, the user must have the correct screen and PC

As we move forward, technology is pushing for hardware to become faster and screens to become bigger and VGA is becoming the pinnacle point of where technology is going. The VGA card is used for most 2-D applications, when putting up your Windows or Microsoft Office.

The 3-D application market is very different to the 2-D market, in that it is aimed at the Multi-media, gaming or presentation environment, and this where the VGA card comes into its own, as it has so many great features and allows the user to take full advantage of the 3-D technology.

Within the gaming market, more of the games are moving towards the 3-D technology, as the software manufacturers such as Electronic Arts or I.D. have over recent months, made the games which will enhance the VGA cards, which will in turn enhance the PC

Apart from games, multi-media presentations, 3-D rendering or modelling can be used with the 3-D applications. Specialised work being done on 3-D environments, or programmes being written for the use of 3-D, would also make use of the 3-D applications.

The VGA card can also handle video-editing with absolute ease, however, the software that comes with it, is very basic, and therefore people wanting to do specialised video editing, should make sure that they have their own specialised video editing software.

The TNT2 card as apposed to other VGA cards, is a better buy because users are given special functions in the video capturing, such as ‘tweeking' the 3-D environment, and the use of the graphic user interface.

The cost of a VGA card from a retail outlet, is about R2 300.00.
