TELIWEB

In Touch presenter Greg Melvill-Smith talks to John-Claude Latter of Teljoy about Teliweb. Iinstead of connecting to the web through your PC, there is now a more affordable way to do it - through your television. Teliweb is a unit which is similar to a decode and it has an infrared keyboard. You connect through a normal telephone line and plug it into your TV..

There are E-mail facilities on Teliweb and you can have up to 5 different E-mail addresses on the one unit. It's mainly used to receive and send E-mail and then surf the web. You can't download pages with images or text off the web, as it doesn't have a hard-drive. It's just for information purposes.

You do have the facility to save E-mails however. You have a screen in which you can save them and then print them.

You don't have to be computer-literate to work Teliweb. Use your favorite icon - Teliweb, Yebo!Net or Teljoy as a beginning and start surfing the Web.

Your Teliweb hire costs you about R65 a month and your ISP connection, which is Yebo!Net, costs R75 a month. So for R140, if you have a television, and you can surf the web. The only other cost, apart from the monthly R140 is the installation cost. Teljoy will install the product for you for about R 120. You are also able to purchase Teliweb outright for R1999. Our target market is anybody with a television set. At the moment and we've got 49 million households with television sets, of which only 20% have PC's which illustrates the huge potential for the product.
