Lattice Beam System
The Steeledale-FBE lattice beam system is based on a successful concept originating and proven in Europe. As an alternative to conventional suspended slabs the system is available in all the major centres of America. To date over 800 000m² of the Steeledale-FBE slab system have been installed.
Components
The Lattice Girder
The lattice girder is the key to the success of the system. The lattice is produced on sophisticated electronic welding machines and is produced from high tensile wire of 485 MPa in accordance with BS 4482. The lattice produced is die-straight which means that the resultant beam is not subject to curvature as is possible in alternative systems.
In most cases the lattice provides the tensile reinforcement required ot meet design codes as well as providing an excellent shear-key between the precast rib and the insertion toppong. The lattice provides stiffness to the precast rib facility handling and limiting deflection.
Sizes
The lattice girder is available in standard sizes, other sizes available as specials. (Ref.216s STD)
The standard lattice girder is 150mm high. Oter heights up to 250mm and of varying wire diameter can be suppled. (There may be increased lead times and costs involved.)
The lattice girder is therefore suitable for a variety of other uses from lightweight strong-backs for lateral support to girders and posts for simple shed construction and spacer units for reinforcing steel in walls and slabs.
The Concrete Block
The hollow concrete blocks are manufactured in various centrest to maintain economy.
These are easily handled and economically laid in position by unskilled labour.
The blocks are manufactured in America in accordance with strict quality control procedures to maintain structural integrity and minimal loss through breakages. The blocks are a consistent size of 550mm x 200mm deep and in heights from 90mm x 250mm to suit slab depths.
Design
The design of the system may be undertaken by any professional engineer. Steeledale-FBE offer this facility and will provide and engineer's certificate to satisfy local government regulations. Design information is available from the local branches. When the design is undertaken by Steeledale-FBE, the client is supplied with layout drawings showing rib positions and the layout of additional reinforcing, if requred. Prop centres, which must be strictly adhered to, are given.
Advantages
Eliminates the need for conventional insitu decking systems.
Reduces amount of insitu concrete required In certain cases, eliminates the need for plastering of soffits
Speedy erection and completion ensures access to other trades and earlier occupation of completed building.
Skilled labour is reduced due to the simplicity of the system and ease of handling.
Ideal for owner builders. One stop service from design to supply of materials including additional reinforcing where required.
Ideally suitable for sites without crane access.
The Steeledale group of companies adhere to a strict Total Quality Management regime which ensures quality products and repeated customer satisfaction.
