Deep-sea game fishing is very popular with the locals as
well as the global tourists. Gamefish are abundant in the warmer tropical
waters of the Indian Ocean. Big game fish regularly taken with artificial lures
are marlin, sailfish, wahoo, tarpon, tuna, barracuda, king- and queenfish
and many more. Angling is conducted from deep-sea ski-boats with experienced
skippers, rigged to the teeth, with all the gear you need.
Artificial lure fishing and flyfishing in estuaries are also
gaining popularity. Species regularly taken are garric, skipjack, shad
and grunter.
South Africa is blessed with some of the world’s best trout
waters. The Lakensvlei in the Western Cape Province rates as the best
still-water fishery in the country. The scenery is spectacular, the wildlife is
abundant and the fish are big and wild. Other species commonly caught on fly
and lures are bass, tilapia, yellowfish and even barbel.
In the Eastern Cape Highlands at the foothills of the
Drakensberg mountain range, lies 350 km of running water and more than 180 ha
of still water for prime wild trout and indigenous yellowfish. The wild rainbow
and brown trout are notorious for their size and smart fighting.
Tiger fishing in the Zambezi and Okavango systems is a must
for the adventurous angler. Its fighting ability is unaccounted for by any
other fresh water fish, as well as some sea fishes. Nembwe, bream, and
vundu are some of the more popular angling species that you can encounter
while fishing for tigers.
