Franschhoek ( "the French Glen" ) is situated ± 70 km east of Cape Town in the
heartland of South Africa's wine growing industry. Not surprising when one considers
that this fertile ground is where the French (Huguenots who escaped religious persecution)
made wine in South Africa more than 300 years ago. Many of South Africa's top wines
are produced in the area. The picturesque valley also offers some of the country's
most acclaimed restaurants and guest accommodation and is known as the "Wine and Food
Capital of the Cape of Good Hope".
Properties in and around Franschhoek are very sought after by South Africans and
even more so by people from elsewhere in the world. A large number of expatriates
live here permanently, while others live here during our gorgeous sunfilled summer
months which runs from September to May.
Franschhoek's splendid mountains, natural beauty, vineyards, open-hearted hospitality,
tourist attractions and magnificent architecture from previous centuries, all contribute
to make this one of the top ten most visited places in South Africa.
