What is GuitarTrainer?

Lets first look at the conventional way of exercising.

Normally one would start out with a simple song and try to pick it. You would start out using notes on the leftmost side of the fret board. Once the melody sounds wrong, you realize you picked the wrong note and you try again. So, you slowly and surely work through the complete song, it takes long and you repeat the same initial sequences many times and you start memorizing note sequences. Finally, you play the song from memory and you loose the sheet reading capability you gained during the initial start-stop stages.

There are a lot of disadvantages to this technique... slow, irritating, inefficient.

GuitarTrainer works in the following manner:

  • It is a computer based training tool that generates an interactive music sheet and fret board on screen. The fret board image is oriented exactly as you would see it when playing your own guitar, looking down at your hands. The fret board (up to the fret 13) can be divided into at least three interleaving “patterns”. In order to simplify training, the learner gets trained on each one separately. At the end of the course, the three patterns are combined to cover the complete fret board.

  • It prompts the learner with sheet notes (within the current pattern), as fast as he or she can manage, and the learner, must show where it lies on the fret board.

  • GuitarTrainer provides immediate feedback and provide assistance when needed.

Just give it a try!
