South Africa's major cities:

Cape Town -- considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town is also the most poular Southern African tourist destination.

Johannesburg -- the heartbeat of the South African economy;

Durban -- a popular coastal tourist destination with a rich multi-cultural vibe

Port Elizabeth -- fifth biggest city in South Africa and the largest on the coast between Cape Town and Durban.

East London -- home to the only river port in South Africa.

Bloemfontein -- South Africa's judicial capital;

Nelspruit -- capital of the Mpumalanga Province; gateway to the Kruger National Park.

 

City, Town and Village Guides for South Africa's nine Provinces:

Eastern Cape -- The capital of the Eastern Cape Province is situated at Bisho outside King Williams Town. The port cities of Port Elizabeth and East London are also the regions biggest urban areas.

Free State -- Bloemfontein, the Free States' Capital city, is located some 350km south of Johannesburg. Most of the towns in the region are rural centres servicing the agricultural industry. Welkom is dominated by mining activities.

KwaZulu Natal -- the capital, Pietermaritzburg, and Durban, are the KwaZulu Natals only cities. Being the most populous of South Africa's provinces, KwaZulu Natal has numerous large towns.
