SIZE: Length (including tail) 17 cm, mass 28 g.
COLOUR: Grey to buff grey with the underparts lighter to whitish. The lower face, chin and feet are all white or grey-white and there are slightly darker patches under the eyes. The bushy tail is brownish-grey and white-tipped.
GESTATION PERIOD: 24 days
MOST LIKE: The Rock Dormouse, but slightly smaller and not found in the rocky habitat favoured by this species. The facial markings of the woodland dormouse are less distinct.
HABITAT: Wooded areas, where tree trunks offer holes for shelter in the daytime.
