SIZE: Length 28 cm; mass 74 g.
COLOUR: Bright and silky, varying from buff to reddish-brown paler in the drier, western parts of South Africa. Sides of face, chin, throat, remaining underparts and feet all white, and there is a small white patch on the forehead. Dark stripe along upper surface of tail; ears dark brown.
MOST LIKE: The Cape Gerbil and the Highveld Gerbil, but neither of these species has a dark stripe along the upper surface of the tail.
HABITAT: Mostly in areas of sandy soil suitable for burrowing, with favoured vegetation ranging from open grassland to woodland.
